Dr. Bernard's practice concentrates on patent prosecution, primarily in the areas of renewable energy, high-strength ceramics, and semiconductor electronics. He has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications involving alternative fuels, fuel cells, cellulosic ethanol, and natural gas production. He also has experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the areas of ceramic body armor and semiconductor device fabrication.
Prior to joining Townsend, Dr. Bernard worked in the Denver office of a major Washington D.C.-based law firm, preparing and prosecuting patent applications, assisting in pre-trial preparation for patent infringement litigation as well as assisting in drafting a Federal Circuit brief in a case involving infringement of agricultural chemicals. He has previous experience as a patent agent and technical analyst, assisting with the scientific aspects of patent infringement litigation.
