(San Francisco, CA) – Townsend and Townsend and Crew LLP, one of the nation’s leading intellectual property law firms, announced today that the firm has been recognized by the Minority Law Journal as the one of the most diverse law firms in the U.S. The Minority Law Journal’s 2009 Diversity Scorecard rankings place Townsend second in the category of overall diversity among more than 250 of the largest law firms in the U.S. (as ranked by the American Lawyer and National Law Journal).
In addition to its second place overall ranking, Townsend was recognized among U.S. law firms as having the third highest percentage of minority partners; the fourth highest percentage of Asian American lawyers; and the tenth highest percentage of minority attorneys (partners and non-partners). Complete results of the survey are available here and online at: www.minoritylawjournal.com.
“Our goal has been – and remains – to build a workplace that reflects the diversity of our community,” remarked Mehrnaz Boroumand-Smith, chair of Townsend’s Diversity Committee. “Diversity in our attorney ranks makes us a stronger and a more creative firm – and while we’re happy to be recognized for the success that we’ve had, we realize that much remains to be done.”
Townsend’s commitment to diversity is multi-faceted, focused on the support of minority lawyers within the firm as well as the support of organizations that provide support to minority lawyers and law students and legal aid to minorities and those who lack sufficient access to the legal system. The firm’s diversity-related efforts are spearheaded by a nine-person Diversity Committee, tasked with identifying methods for the firm to attract and maintain a diverse workforce across all areas of the practice.
Townsend teams with businesses, inventors, entrepreneurs, scientists and investors to protect innovative products and ideas. The firm offers a full range of intellectual property services, including patent, copyright and trademark litigation, prosecution and licensing, with additional expertise in antitrust. With headquarters in San Francisco and additional offices in Palo Alto, Walnut Creek, San Diego, Seattle, Washington, D.C., and Tokyo, Townsend has more than 200 attorneys, many with advanced technical degrees and extensive scientific and business experience.
