Townsend Elevates Three to Partner

San Francisco, CA – Townsend and Townsend and Crew LLP announced today the election of three lawyers to the partnership of the firm, effective January 1, 2010.  Townsend’s new partners include Dr. Kenneth E. Jenkins, Michael T. Rosato and Daniel S. Young.

“We are very happy to welcome these new partners,” remarked firm Chairman Jim Gilliland.  “Throughout their careers here at Townsend, they each have demonstrated the combination of legal talent and client focus that is more important than ever in today’s marketplace.  It’s notable that all three are from offices outside of the San Francisco Bay Area, in our San Diego, Seattle and Denver offices – underscoring the national reach of our practice.”

Townsend’s new partners also possess a wide range of legal and technical abilities, practicing in many different areas of patent prosecution, litigation and counseling for clients in the life sciences, medical devices, electronics and related industries:

Kenneth E. Jenkins, Ph.D., 37, practices in Townsend’s San Diego, California office and advises clients in the life sciences with regard to all aspects of patent prosecution, counseling and litigation.  He counsels biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies in developing their patent claiming and filing strategies, procuring patents on cornerstone technologies, and strategically managing patent portfolios to maximize investments.  Dr. Jenkins also counsels lenders and investors in assessing the value of patent assets through due diligence reviews, including validity analyses, freedom to operate analyses, and in-licensed technology investigations.  In addition to patent counseling, Dr. Jenkins represents pharmaceutical companies in high-stakes patent litigations involving challenges under the Hatch-Waxman Act.  Dr. Jenkins is a 2002 graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.  He received a Ph.D. in chemistry and biotechnology from the University of Colorado in 1999 and an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Texas in 1994.

Michael T. Rosato, 36, practices in Townsend’s Seattle, Washington office and advises early and later stage companies with regard to patent prosecution and counseling.  Mr. Rosato primarily represents clients in the biomedical sciences, often developing products presenting a combination of medical and mechanical technologies, electronics and software systems.  Mr. Rosato also provides interference and reexamination practice, strategic counseling, as well as patentability, non-infringement and validity advice.  Mr. Rosato is a 2002 graduate of the University of Washington School of law.  He also received a masters degree in toxicology from the University of Washington in 1999 and an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Rutgers University in 1996.

Daniel S. Young, 38, practices in Townsend’s Denver, Colorado office and advises clients with regard to all aspects of intellectual property litigation and counseling.  Mr. Young has extensive experience litigating patent disputes in a number of technology areas, including semiconductor processing, software, and financial transactions, before federal courts throughout the United States, the International Trade Commission, and private arbitration.  Mr. Young also has significant experience in litigating trademark and copyright disputes.  In addition to litigation, Mr. Young counsels clients on a wide range of intellectual property licensing issues, including software and patent licenses.  Mr. Young is a 2001 graduate of the University of Denver College of Law.  He also received a degree in civil engineering in 1994 from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
