IP Update

Facebook, the popular social networking site, announced a few days ago a new feature that allows individual users to create and register personalized Facebook URLs, for example: facebook.com/janedoe.

Recognizing that users may attempt to register trademarked names, Facebook has instituted a rudimentary process for rights holders to record their registered trademarks and thus prevent unauthorized registration by third parties.

Trademark owners can submit their trademark claims on the Facebook platform by submitting relevant information through the Facebook trademark protection contact form

You may also want to consult the Facebook FAQ page and/or consider reading recent and breaking news coverage of this topic, which is widely available on the Internet.

Since Facebook expects to activate this new feature at 9:01 pm on Friday, June 12, 2009, immediate action is encouraged.
